Agricultural biotechnology, and crop science in general, includes traditional cross-breeding techniques, trait selection, and genetic engineering in some cases. Biotech crops can make farming more profitable by increasing crop quality and may in some cases increase crop yields. According to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), biotechnology crops as a percentage of total crop plantings in the USA were about 88 percent for corn, 94 percent for cotton, and 93 percent for soybeans. Herbicide-tolerant crops are particularly compatible with commercial agriculture systems that help preserve topsoil from erosion.
USDA researchers seek to solve major agricultural problems and to better understand the basic plant biology relating to agricultural science. This includes introducing new or improved traits in plants, animals, and microorganisms and creating new biotechnology-based products such as more effective diagnostic tests, improved farm animal vaccines, and better antibiotics. The USDA Economic Research Service (ERS) conducts research on the economic aspects of the use of genetically engineered plants, including the rate of adoption of biotechnology by farmers.

Mechanical Engineering Programs
Mechanical engineering degrees typically take four to five years to complete, and result in a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), Bachelor of Science (BSc or BS), or Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (BME). In the US, most undergraduate mechanical engineering programs are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Mechanical engineering programs include courses on composites, thermodynamics, engine design, hydraulics, control theory, robotics, and computer-aided design (CAD). In addition to the core mechanical engineering curriculum, many mechanical engineering programs offer more specialized programs and classes, such as control systems, cryogenics, fuel technology, biomechanics, vibration, and optics. The median annual income of mechanical engineers in the US workforce was $80,580, highest when working for the government ($92,030), and lowest in education ($57,090).Many mechanical engineering companies have begun to incorporate computer-aided engineering (CAE) programs into their existing processes, including 2D and 3D solid modeling computer-aided design (CAD), enabling faster and more exhaustive visualization of products. Other CAE programs commonly used by mechanical engineers include product lifecycle management (PLM), and analysis tools such as finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). Further, automation in the form of industrial robots allow businesses to save money on manufacturing costs, and ensure precision quality control.

Engineering Job Listings
The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineers who pass this exam are called engineers in training (EIT), or engineer interns. After meeting work experience requirements, engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam. Thereafter, acquisition of a professional engineering license enables management of junior engineers, the ability to sign off on engineering projects, and provide services directly to the public. Wages vary by employer and location. Aside from salary, most engineering jobs include excellent benefits, as well as retirement plans.Job listings below are updated hourly: | Starting Salary (up to) | 10 Year Salary (up to) |
